Macron visited the site on Friday ahead of its planned reopening to the public on Dec. 8. Joined by his wife, Brigitte, and the archbishop of Paris, the president broadcast images from inside the cathedral, showing its soaring rebuilt ceilings and shiny stonework good as new.

“This project was a human adventure of epic proportions in terms of building and prowess, involving the patient and dedicated work of a chain of talents working with one another, passing the torch to those of the centuries to come,” Macron wrote in an essay ahead of his visit.

In the years since the April 2019 fire destroyed the structure’s spire and roof, only those involved in the reconstruction have been permitted to enter the cathedral. Architects and artisans have since worked tirelessly to restore the Gothic marvel to its splendor of previous centuries.

Inside the 12th-century monument, the ceiling — once left with gaping holes — has been rebuilt using an estimated 2,000 oak trees. Murals have been restored to their original colors and the limestone walls have not only been cleaned of dust from the fire, but hundreds of years of accumulated dirt.

Outside, the ornate spire stands once again.

“The inferno of Notre Dame was a wound for the nation. And you were its remedy,” Macron told hundreds of workers gathered in the cathedral after his tour.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs claims feds edited Cassie video to keep him in jail https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/11/21/diddy-claims-feds-edited-cassie-video-deny-bail/ Thu, 21 Nov 2024 22:44:33 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8006789 Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team is accusing the feds of editing the now-infamous video of him beating up ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura ahead of the music mogul’s latest bail hearing Friday.

Lawyers for the embattled rapper, 55, say federal prosecutors have attempted to make the 2016 surveillance footage appear more harrowing than it is, according to documents filed in Manhattan federal court on Thursday.

His attorneys allege the feds have mischaracterized critical facts in an effort to ensure Combs’ bail request is denied. The Harlem-born rapper has been behind bars at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since September, awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

CNN published surveillance video in May of the brutal one-sided brawl, in which Diddy appears to grab, kick and drag Ventura in a hallway of a Los Angeles hotel in March 2016.

Combs’ legal team claims the government has a more complete version of that footage, but instead presented the court with an edited sequence of events in attempt to offer more “powerful evidence of danger and obstruction,” reported TMZ.

For weeks, Combs’ lawyers have denied the video proves that Ventura, now 38, was the victim of sex trafficking. Instead, they’ve said it’s a “minuteslong glimpse into a complex but decadelong consensual relationship.”

They allege the footage offers no evidence of a coerced “freak off,” but rather depicts a “domestic dispute in which [Combs] ran down the hall of the hotel to recover his clothes and cell phone.” His attorneys also deny he dragged Ventura down the hallway or threw a vase at her, as he appears to do in the video.

The latest court filing comes amid Diddy’s third attempt to be granted bail. He’s twice been denied, with two federal judges ruling he poses too many risks to be released, including the potential for witness tampering.

Late last week, prosecutors accused Combs of “relentless efforts” to contact prospective witnesses and potential victims while behind bars. They said it was clear Combs’ “goal is to blackmail victims and witnesses either into silence or providing testimony helpful to his defense.”

His legal team has denied those accusations, while claiming new evidence uncovered during the discovery process “undermines the primary bases” on which the feds initially sought for Diddy to be held without bail.

In their latest motion for his immediate release, they’ve said keeping Combs detained leaves him “unconstitutionally handicapped” in preparing for trial. His attorneys have proposed new conditions, including a $50 million bond agreement, round-the-clock home detention and strict limitations on his ability to contact anyone outside his legal team.

Prosecutors have asked the judge to reject Combs’ request, saying he “cannot be trusted to abide by rules or conditions” and arguing his “long history of violence demonstrates his dangerousness.”

Rapper Lil Durk charged in connection with 2022 murder-for-hire plot https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/10/25/rapper-lil-durk-arrested-murder-for-hire-plot-quando-rondo/ Fri, 25 Oct 2024 15:40:44 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7968504 Grammy winner Lil Durk has been charged in connection with a plot to kill fellow rapper Quando Rondo that resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin instead.

The 32-year-old Chicago artist, real name Durk Banks, was arrested Thursday in Florida and charged with conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire in the death of 24-year-old Saviay’a Robinson, according to an FBI affidavit released Friday.

Robinson was fatally shot at a Los Angeles gas station on Aug. 19, 2022, after feds claim Durk said he’d “pay a bounty” to anyone who carried out the revenge killing of Rondo.

The latter is believed to have been involved in a November 2020 shooting in Atlanta that killed three men, including up-and-coming rapper King Von, a member of Durk’s Chicago-based hip-hop collective, Only the Family (OTF).

Durk was taken into custody in Miami as he attempted to flee the country on a private flight to Italy, according to FBI Agent Sarah Corcoran. Earlier in the day, five other members of OTF were arrested in Chicago for their involvement in the murder-for-hire at the direction of Durk, Corcoran said.

According to the affidavit, on Aug. 18, 2022, those men flew from Chicago to San Diego and then drove to Los Angeles using money provided by Durk. Upon arriving in L.A., they were met by top OTF associate Kayon Grant, who allegedly provided them with vehicles and guns.

The next day, the men followed Rondo and his cousin Robinson as they drove around L.A., according to the indictment. When the cousins stopped at a gas station, the OTF members allegedly got out of their vehicle and opened fire, killing Robinson but missing Rondo.

As of Friday, Durk and the other five men charged in the slaying were being held pending their transfer to California. Durk was believed to have made his first appearance in Miami federal court on Friday.

Authorities said at least two more arrests could be forthcoming.

The latest charges against Durk come just weeks after he was sued in connection with the fatal shooting of rapper FBG Duck in 2020. The suit alleges he and King Von were among those who conspired to murder Duck as part of a long-running war between two Chicago gangs.

In 2019, Durk and King Von were also charged in a drive-by shooting in Atlanta that wounded a man in the leg. Prosecutors dropped the charges against Durk in 2022.

Five years before that shooting, Durk pleaded guilty to felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and felony possession of a firearm after visibly carrying a gun in Chicago. He did not serve any jail time.

Prior to his latest legal troubles, Durk had been honored by the Chicago suburb of Broadview, which had teamed up with the rapper’s nonprofit, Neighborhood Heroes Foundation.

On Friday, Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson announced the village was cutting ties with the youth organization and was “withdrawing our honorary ‘key to the village’ granted to Durk” just last week.

Hotel staffer could face indictment for procuring Liam Payne drugs prior to death: report https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/10/19/liam-payne-death-hotel-employee-indictment-cristal-drug/ Sat, 19 Oct 2024 20:00:37 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7960826 A hotel employee is facing possible indictment related to the sudden death of Liam Payne, after the One Direction alum fatally fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on Wednesday.

Police in Argentina believe the 31-year-old popstar ingested a substance known as “cristal” prior to his death, according to TMZ. Sources said the drug can cause psychotic attacks, hallucinations and aggressive behavior.

“There appears to be evidence that a hotel employee sourced the drugs for Payne,” a source within Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office told People. “An indictment for drug distribution could follow shortly.”

The circumstances surrounding Payne’s death are still under investigation, though the prosecutor’s office has said they suspect the singer was “experiencing some kind of episode due to substance abuse.”

In a public statement translated from Spanish, prosecutor Marcelo Roma said he was specifically looking into who supplied Payne the drugs they believe he had taken.

According to CNN, six people who had seen Payne in the hours leading up to his death spoke with local authorities on Thursday. Those include Payne’s manager, three hotel employees and two women reported to be escorts by Argentine news outlet La Nación.

The women reportedly told police they were with the British singer in his hotel room but didn’t see him consume any drugs. They said they arrived at the hotel around 11:30 a.m. but left by 4 p.m., roughly an hour before Payne’s death. The prosecutor’s office also said “everything indicates the musician was alone” at the time of his fatal fall.

His girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, had reportedly been traveling with him in Argentina for roughly two weeks, but returned to the United States on Monday.

Payne plunged to his death shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, just minutes after a receptionist called 911 asking for help, saying a guest was “trashing” his room and was believed to be “high on drugs.”

Authorities said they believe the singer “jumped from the balcony” of his third-floor room, suffering multiple traumatic injuries that led to his immediate death, according to a preliminary autopsy report.

Buenos Aires police later released photos said to be from inside Payne’s hotel room, showing items including aluminum foil, a lighter and traces of an unidentified white powder. That substance has yet to be confirmed as the drug authorities believe was in Payne’s system at the time of his death.

Payne had previously spoken out about his struggles with drug and alcohol abuse, telling fans in a July 2023 YouTube video that he was nearly six months sober after spending 100 days in a rehab facility.

British tabloids reported the singer again checked into a rehab center this July, but left the 30-day program after just a few days.

Cheryl Hines more upset over RFK Jr.’s support of Trump than alleged affairs: report https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/10/05/cheryl-hines-rfk-jr-affair-reaction-trump-endorsement/ Sat, 05 Oct 2024 17:06:00 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7941839 Amid reports that Cheryl Hines and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “have barely spoken” in the weeks since news broke of an alleged affair involving him and a much younger political reporter, sources are now saying the rumored relationship is not the central focus of the couple’s problems.

According to an insider who spoke to Us Weekly, Hines has been far more upset about the former presidential candidate ending his bid for the White House and giving his endorsement to Donald Trump.

The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star, 59, is said to be concerned about how her husband’s support of Republican Trump could impact her career.

Cheryl wasn’t so upset about the alleged affair, but more about how her husband’s involvement with Trump will affect her in Hollywood,” the insider told the outlet, adding that Kennedy’s “political outspokenness has garnered a lot of polarizing attention.”

“She’s worried that it will hinder her work opportunities, given her long career,” they said.

Immediately after dropping out of the race in August, 70-year-old Kennedy — a known conspiracy theorist and anti-vaccine advocate — confirmed his wife of 10 years was “very uncomfortable” with his political decision.

Hines is a “lifelong Democrat” who “does not support Donald Trump,” Kennedy said days later in an interview with TMZ.

Watching her husband stand behind the convicted “Apprentice” star is “something that she would have never imagined, that she never wanted in her life,” he said.

Amid the couple’s issues over politics, Kennedy has also been plagued by accusations he’s had affairs with multiple women.

On Sept. 20, New York magazine announced in a note to its readers that political correspondent Olivia Nuzzi had been put on leave after having “acknowledged to the magazine’s editors that she had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign, a violation of the magazine’s standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures.”

The relationship allegedly began shortly after 31-year-old Nuzzi interviewed RFK for a New York profile published in November 2023. While Nuzzi later told CNN the relationship was “never physical,” subsequent reports claimed the romance included sexting.

On Wednesday, Mediaite reported that three more women linked to Kennedy’s anti-vaccine organization claimed they too had affairs with the polarizing politician within the past year.

Kennedy has denied all the allegations of cheating.

“Mr. Kennedy has had no romantic relationships with any woman other than his wife since their marriage,” a spokesperson said in a statement to Mediaite.

Hines, meanwhile, has not publicly commented on the matter, though rumors have swirled she’s been considering divorce. She was spotted celebrating a birthday in Spain without her husband or her wedding ring shortly after the scandal broke.

Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine hit with lawsuit alleging revenge porn, assault, abuse https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/09/20/tekashi-69-yailin-la-mas-viral-lawsuit-revenge-porn-abuse-assault/ Sat, 21 Sep 2024 00:48:19 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7922183 Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is calling cap on his ex-girlfriend’s bombshell claims in a lawsuit alleging multiple types of physical, emotional and financial abuse.

The Brooklyn-born rapper, who last fall was arrested on accusations of assaulting two music producers, is the subject of a new legal complaint filed by his former flame Yailin La Más Viral.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the Dominican reggae singer claims that after she ended their relationship last month, 6ix9ine retaliated by sharing explicit photos and videos of her on social media without her consent.

Yailin also accuses the rapper of drugging and abusing her to keep her under his control, fleecing hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund his own lifestyle, and coercing her into undergoing unnecessary cosmetic procedures.

The 22-year-old “Perdi Mi Tiempo” singer is seeking more than $1 million in damages.

Tekashi 6ix9ine has since denied all the allegations made in the lawsuit, saying he’s the one who helped Yailin out financially.

“All that jewelry is mine …” the 28-year-old “Gooba” star said in a statement to TMZ. “That car she’s riding in I bought … the penthouse [she] got in the Dominican Republic I bought … I took care of her family, daughter — when I met her she had 2-month-old baby — I put Pampers and food on the table for them.”

Yailin welcomed her daughter, Cattleya, in March 2023 with Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA. The two tied the knot in June 2022, but announced their separation a month before their daughter was born.

Yailin and 6ix9ine had been romantically linked since mid-2023, after they collaborated on his song “Pa Ti.”

Yailin was arrested in December of that year and booked for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, among other charges, after she was caught on video hitting the rapper with a large piece of wood outside his Florida home.

She allegedly told cops at the time that she got upset after 6ix9ine withheld her money and took her passport from her, according to the police report obtained by TMZ.

The following month, the rapper was arrested in the Dominican Republic on charges of domestic violence against Yailin.

Yailin in the lawsuit says she finally called off their tumultuous relationship in August after learning about the rapper’s alleged theft and fraud.

YouTube live streamers find body near site of I-75 mass shooting in Kentucky https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/09/18/body-found-kentucky-i-75-mass-shooting-live-streamers/ Thu, 19 Sep 2024 00:09:09 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7919196 YouTube live streamers reportedly found a body in the woods near I-75 in Kentucky, the same highway that alleged shooter Joseph Couch sent a volley of bullets toward 11 days ago, wounding five people and sparking a statewide manhunt.

Kentucky State Police confirmed Wednesday afternoon that a body had been located “in the vicinity of Exit 49 in Laurel County,” and that investigators were working to confirm the identity.

“There were articles associated with the body that, at this time, we feel is Joseph Couch,” Police Commissioner Phillip Burnett, Jr. said at a press conference, noting the body would be sent to the coroner in Frankfort for confirmation on Thursday.

The body had seemingly first been discovered by live streamers from Hatfield McCoy Museum Adventures, who had taken a break from their usual activities documenting the famous Hatfield-McCoy feud to help in the search for Couch.

A 30-minute live stream posted on Wednesday followed a man and a woman as they trekked through the woods off I-75. Near the end of the video, they said they had started to pick up on the smell of decaying flesh.

A few moments later, the man, hidden behind some trees, can be heard yelling, “Got him! Here he is!” The video comes to an end about 30 seconds later.

Police had been combing Daniel Boone National Forest for nearly two weeks since the apparently random shooting on the evening of Sept. 7, WKYT reported.

Police almost immediately named Joseph Couch, 32, as a person of interest and then a suspect, telling people to “consider [him] armed and dangerous.” They charged him with five counts of attempted murder.

That morning he had bought about 1,000 rounds of ammunition, firing 20 to 30 of them hours later from a perch near exit 49. A dozen vehicles were hit.

Authorities found his vehicle on a service road near the scene and a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle nearby. But they continued to search for Couch, combing the rugged woods near London, about 75 miles south of Lexington, and scouring 28,000 acres over the 11 days.

Couch had texted someone, identified by some media outlets as his ex-wife, about a half hour before the shootings, saying he was “going to kill a lot of people. Well, try at least,” authorities said at the time.

He indicated he planned to do the same to himself when he was done.

All five gunshot victims are expected to make a full recovery, while two other people who were injured but not by gunfire are also on the mend.

Justin Timberlake pleads guilty to driving while impaired in Sag Harbor court https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/09/13/justin-timberlake-pleads-guilty-dwai-court-appearance/ Fri, 13 Sep 2024 17:18:10 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7912289 A somber Justin Timberlake appeared in a Sag Harbor court Friday morning to plead guilty to a less serious charge after being pulled over for drunk driving on Long Island in June.

The 43-year-old singer was sentenced to serve 25 hours of community service within one year, pay a maximum fine of $500 and surrender his driving rights in New York State for 90 days after admitting to driving while impaired by alcohol.

He originally pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, which carries a sentence of up to one year in jail.

The former NSYNC star was busted after leaving The American Hotel in his 2025 BMW, swerving out of his lane and blowing through a stop sign, according to police. Cops said he failed multiple field sobriety tests and wouldn’t consent to a breathalyzer test.

Timberlake told the court Friday that he understood the severity of his actions and promised the judge he “won’t be back here again.”

His plea agreement also required him to make a public safety announcement.

Timberlake addressed the media after the hearing, saying he had a lot of time to reflect on his actions and hopes to use his platform to help others make better decisions.

“I try to hold myself to a very high standard, and this was not that,” he told reporters outside the courthouse.

“Even if you’ve had one drink, don’t get behind the wheel of a car,” he said. “There’s so many alternatives. Call a friend. Take an Uber. There’s many travel apps. Take a taxi,” he said. “This is a mistake that I made, but I’m hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake. I know that I certainly have.”

He also spoke about growing up in a small town and said he understood the strain his arrest put on Sag Harbor. He thanked local residents, law enforcement and everyone else involved in the case for helping him work through the ordeal.

“In closing, I’d like to say we can all be more safe out there, and I’m going to do my part. I hope that everyone else does their part,” he said.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney echoed Timberlake’s sentiments, saying in a statement Friday there’s no excuse to drive impaired when public transportation and ride share services are readily available.

However, he praised Timberlake for taking responsibility for his actions and “for using his platform to increase public awareness about the dangers of drunk driving.”

Tierney also maintained the Grammy Award winner was treated like any other citizen would be in a similar case.

“Justice should be applied equally to all individuals, regardless of their wealth or celebrity status,” the DA said.

Timberlake was arrested in the early hours of June 18 in no state to operate a motorized vehicle, according to police.

“His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention,” officers wrote in a court filing at the time. “He had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”

Timberlake claimed he only had one martini before getting behind the wheel. A bartender at The American Hotel also said he only served Timberlake one drink.

“If he was drinking more, it wasn’t here,” another employee told People magazine.

At a hearing in July, Timberlake’s attorney, Edward Burke, argued his client should not have been arrested for DUI.

“The facts remain, he was not intoxicated,” Burke said at the time, adding that “police made a number of very significant errors.”

Burke on Friday said the lesser charge of driving while impaired “is consistent with” the facts in the case.

Ahead of his plea on Friday, Timberlake had not appeared in court in person as he continued to perform on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour. He’s set to take the stage at the Prudential Center in Newark on Sept. 28 before heading to Brooklyn for an Oct. 7 show at Barclays Center.

Megyn Kelly goes on epic tirade after Swift endorses Harris: ‘F you, Taylor’ https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/09/11/megyn-kelly-on-taylor-swift-meltdown-harris-endorsement-post-debate/ Wed, 11 Sep 2024 23:55:30 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7909761 Right-wing pundit Megyn Kelly lashed out at Taylor Swift after the pop superstar threw her support behind presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

The 34-year-old global phenomenal officially endorsed the Democratic nominee after Tuesday night’s presidential debate in which Harris, by most accounts, bested Republican candidate Donald Trump.

According to Kelly — a former Fox News star who briefly worked for NBC — Swift’s choice to voice her opinion will cost her fans.

“You can kiss your sales to the Republican audience goodbye,” Kelly, 53, sneered on her SiriusXM talk show. “Hope you enjoyed them while you had them.”

She then launched into a dramatic tirade, attacking Swift for praising vice presidential candidate Tim Walz as a proponent of LGBTQ rights, a cause the singer holds dear.

“I’m allowed to criticize Taylor Swift, and I don’t give a s–t who gets upset,” Kelly continued. “This is disgusting. If she wants to vote Harris-Walz, she can do it all she wants but to say the reason she is doing it is because of Tim Walz’s stance on LGBTQ … F you, Taylor Swift. And F all of the people who want to see these children have body parts chopped off and watch them sterilized under the age of consent.”

She also went after Swift’s boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, calling the couple “elite snobs” who don’t really “care what happens to these kids, just like [Kelce] doesn’t give a s–t what happens to all the young men who take the Pfizer booster he’s been pushing on them.”

Kelce has been a spokesperson for Pfizer since last fall, promoting the pharmaceutical company’s COVID and flu vaccines.

Despite Kelly’s reaction, it’s unlikely Swift’s endorsement came as a surprise to many people including the former president, who earlier this year lamented that the “Bad Blood” singer “probably doesn’t like Trump.”

Swift was previously warned in her 2020 documentary “Miss Americana” that she could alienate fans by discussing politics. But later that year, she endorsed the winning Democratic ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Her reminder for fans to register to vote has also historically driven record surges in voter registration.

Swift shared that reminder again Tuesday night, adding, “Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make” — but made it unequivocally clear what her choice would be come November.

The Instagram endorsement had received more than 9.6 million likes as of Wednesday night.

Ben Affleck skips ‘Unstoppable’ premiere, J.Lo has ‘deep conversation’ with Matt Damon https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/09/07/ben-affleck-skips-unstoppable-movie-premiere/ Sat, 07 Sep 2024 18:27:00 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7904061 Barely three weeks after filing for divorce from Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez got a win when their latest film, “Unstoppable” — co-produced by the former couple — earned a standing ovation at the Toronto International Film Festival, which Affleck noticeably did not attend.

Lopez did, however, appear to share a bonding moment with Affleck’s best friend and co-producing partner, Matt Damon.

The sports biopic is inspired by the life of NCAA national championship-winning wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born with just one leg. The film stars Jharrel Jerome as Robles, alongside 55-year-old Lopez as Robles’ mom, Judy.

“Unstoppable” was warmly received when it premiered Friday at the Canadian film festival, People reports, with the real-life Robles praising the team behind the project for “nailing” his story.

The premiere came on the heels of Lopez filing for divorce from Affleck on Aug. 20 — the second anniversary of their 2022 nuptials in Georgia, which followed a Las Vegas elopement the previous month.

Lopez walked the red carpet in a shimmering silver gown with slits up both sides and oversized black bows. She posed for photos alongside Damon, as well as her co-stars Jerome, Bobby Cannavale and Don Cheadle.

Later in the evening, at the movie premiere’s afterparty, Lopez and Damon — Affleck’s lifelong best friend — were reportedly seen having a “long, deep conversation,” according to People.

Sources told the outlet the pair spent more than 20 minutes talking, and at one point were clasping hands as they appeared to be speaking about something serious.

While Lopez and Affleck spent the summer at the center of split speculation, news of the divorce filing was the first official word on the end of their relationship for the second time.

The duo were previously engaged in the early 2000s before calling off that wedding. They reunited in 2021 after divorcing their respective spouses.

Neither the Bronx native nor the “Argo” filmmaker have publicly commented on their split.

The last time they attended a red carpet event together was in February for the premiere of J.Lo’s “This Is Me… Now: A Love Story.” The film served as a companion piece to her latest album, “This Is Me… Now,” which is largely about her relationship with Affleck.
