The legal team representing pillow executive and conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell has quit defending him because their attorneys are owed “millions of dollars.”
The MyPillow Guy became the NoLawyers Guy this week when the Minneapolis firm Parker Daniels Kibort (PDK) and the Washington, D.C. practice of Lewin & Lewin LLP petitioned a D.C. judge to let them drop Lindell and MyPillow as clients after going months without being paid.
Lindell is currently facing litigation from Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic election technology companies — both of which he’s falsely and repeatedly blamed for Donald Trump’s defeat in the 2020 presidential election.
“On October 2, 2023, PDK was informed by Defendants that they are not able to get caught up with or make any payment on the large amount they owe in arrears nor pay for anywhere near the estimated expense of continuing to defend against the lawsuits going forward, including either the legal fees or litigation costs,” PDK wrote in its filing.
Lewin & Lewin, which was brought in to assist PDK, also said it’s owed money by “Mr. My Pillow, Inc,” and wants out of the arrangement.
The Daily Beast reported Thursday that Lindell is “in the process of obtaining new counsel” amid his former team’s fears they will continue incurring seven-figure losses if they stayed with Lindell.
The beddings magnate told former Trump adviser Steve Bannon on a Thursday podcast he understands his legal team’s decision.
“We can’t pay,” he claimed. “There’s no money left to pay them.”
Lindell has attacked Dominion and Smartmatic during live rallies and TV appearances on networks including Fox News, which paid nearly $800 million to settle a suit with Dominion in April and is still currently in litigation with Smartmatic.
