Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and wife Brittany welcome third child together https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/13/patrick-mahomes-brittany-mahomes-third-child-born/ Mon, 13 Jan 2025 23:27:21 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8070399 Brittany Mahomes gave birth to her and husband Patrick’s third child together on Sunday, the couple announced on social media.

The Kansas City power couple named the baby girl Golden Raye Mahomes, they announced together Monday on Instagram.

Patrick and Brittany, both 29, were already parents to Sterling, 3, and Bronze, 2. They previously said their third baby would be their last.

“I’m done. I’ll say that,” Patrick said in July when asked about balancing his busy life with the couple’s children. “I said three and I’m done.”

The Mahomes family announced Brittany’s third pregnancy in July. While Patrick would normally be busy on Sundays, he led the Kansas City Chiefs to a bye in the first round of the NFL playoffs, so he and Brittany could focus fully on the baby.

After the Chiefs clinched the bye on Christmas Day with a 29-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Brittany applauded her husband for “always keeping his promises” in a social media post.

In fact, Patrick hasn’t suited up for the Chiefs since the win in Pittsburgh. He rested during the final regular season game in preparation for the playoffs but will be back on the field Saturday as the Chiefs face the Houston Texans in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Trump inauguration performers: Carrie Underwood, Village People and more https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/13/trump-inauguration-performers-carrie-underwood-village-people/ Mon, 13 Jan 2025 21:51:45 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8070232 Country music superstar Carrie Underwood is among the performers set to take part in the presidential inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

The Grammy winner is confirmed to sing “America the Beautiful” when Trump is sworn in for his second term as president on Jan. 20 in Washington.

Representatives for Trump confirmed Monday that the “Before He Cheats” singer will be joined by the Armed Forces Choir and United States Naval Academy Glee Club.

Underwood, 41, was the headliner of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest” on Dec. 31. The Oklahoma native came to fame after winning “American Idol” in 2005, and has since earned six platinum albums, eight Grammy Awards and five Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year Awards. She’s thrice been named the Academy of Country Music Awards’ Entertainer of the Year, the most of any female artist.

The Village People are also onboard to perform at Trump’s inauguration celebrations next week. The disco-era band’s late 1970s hit “YMCA” — widely considered a gay anthem — was prominent on the 2024 presidential campaign trail. The song also spawned a signature dance by the president-elect.

The group’s longtime front man Victor Willis (who plays the cop character) confirmed on social media Monday that they would appear at several parties in Washington, despite their difference in political ideologies.

“Our song YMCA is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost,” the 73-year-old crooner wrote on Facebook. “Therefore, we believe it’s now time to bring the country together with music.”

Grammy-winning country singer/songwriter Lee Greenwood and opera singer Christopher Macchio have also been confirmed as inauguration ceremony performers.

“God Bless the U.S.A.,” which Greenwood released in 1984, has become a patriotic anthem and is frequently played at Trump rallies.

Beyoncé leads celebs L.A. wildfire relief efforts with $2.5M https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/13/beyonce-leads-celebs-l-a-wildfire-relief-efforts-with-2-5m/ Mon, 13 Jan 2025 20:41:27 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8070159 Since the L.A. fires broke out Tuesday, thousands of families have been displaced after losing their homes. More than 12,000 structures, including homes and office buildings, have been destroyed.

Several celebrities who call Los Angeles home have pitched in to help survivors.

Beyoncé

On Sunday, Beyoncé’s charity foundation, BeyGood, announced a Fire Relief Fund that she seeded with $2.5 million to aid victims of the Eaton Fire.

“Los Angeles we stand with you.  ” the Instagram post read. “BeyGOOD is taking action by announcing the LA Fire Relief Fund with a donation of 2.5 million dollars.”

“The fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires.”

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton, who lost her own home in Malibu in the Pacific Palisades fire, announced an emergency fund to help families in need, which she seeded with a generous donation.

“As a mom, I can’t imagine the pain and fear of not having a safe place for your babies so I’m launching an emergency fund through my nonprofit 11:11 Media Impact to support displaced families with young children,” Hilton wrote. “I am matching the first $100,000 of this fundraiser and personally contributing $100,000 directly to my nonprofit to support. I am looking for others to donate and match alongside me to do our part!”

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez is stepping up to contribute a large amount to aid L.A. wildfire victims.

While Gomez did not publicly announce her donation, the CEO of Direct Relief, Thomas Tighe, confirmed that the Rare Beauty founder donated $5 million to its Wildfire Relief Fund.

Shortly after the fires broke out, Gomez reposted a statement to her Instagram story from her company’s account.

“As a Los Angeles-based team, our hearts are with California as we face massive wildfires that have threatened communities, displaced families, and destroyed homes. Please visit the following resources if you’re in need of support during this time,”  she said.

Jamie Lee Curtis

Moved by the impact of the wildfires in her Pacific Palisades neighborhood, Jamie Lee Curtis announced a donation of $1 million to relief victims.

“As the fire still rages on and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all the available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbors and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there,” Curtis wrote on Instagram.

“I’m in communication with Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass and Senator Schiff as to where those funds need to be directed for the most impact.”

Kylie Jenner

Although Kylie Jenner did not specify an exact amount, the Kylie Cosmetics owner vowed to donate money. “Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires,” Jenner wrote in her Instagram stories. “To help support the communities affected, we’re making a donation to the California Fire Foundation Wildfire & Disaster Relief Fund. The Wildfire & Disaster Relief Fund is an extension of the California Fire Foundation.”

LiAngelo Ball signs $8M record deal with Def Jam after ‘Tweaker’ success https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/13/liangelo-ball-def-jam-record-deal-tweaker/ Mon, 13 Jan 2025 20:20:03 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8070143 Basketball player-turned-rapper LiAngelo Ball has signed an $8 million label deal with Def Jam Recordings following the viral success of his song “Tweaker,” according to reports.

Ball, 26, released “Tweaker” on Jan. 3 under the stage name Gelo. The song became a breakout hit, heard in NFL and NBA locker rooms as it rocketed up the streaming charts.

The deal with Def Jam and Universal Music Group could be worth as much as $13 million and gives Ball full ownership of his music and his own record label, sources told ESPN insider Shams Charania.

However, sources told TMZ that while Ball did indeed sign with Def Jam, he didn’t get $8 million for the deal.

Though Ball has lived an eventful life, he had little musical history before “Tweaker” became a hit. His older brother, Lonzo, has released two albums, and LiAngelo featured on Lonzo’s 2018 song “BITF.”

While Lonzo and the youngest Ball brother, LaMelo, both became top NBA draft picks and regular starters in the league, LiAngelo has not appeared in an NBA game.

LiAngelo was briefly set to play in college at UCLA — as Lonzo did — but got arrested on a preseason trip to China and never suited up for the Bruins. Instead, he played briefly in the Lithuanian league and has played in NBA summer league and preseason games, along with many G-League appearances. Last year, he played briefly in the Mexican league.

His music career is off to a hotter start. In addition to the record deal, he is scheduled to perform at Rolling Loud California in March.

Meghan Markle’s Netflix series delayed due to L.A. fires https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/13/after-blowback-meghan-markle-delays-premiere-of-netflix-series-amid-los-angeles-fires/ Mon, 13 Jan 2025 20:17:27 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8070013 Meghan Markle‘s royal return to Netflix has been put on hold.

The Jan. 15 premiere of Duchess of Sussex’s new Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan” is now scheduled to air March 4 amid the Los Angeles wildfires.

Markle, who resides with husband Prince Harry and children in nearby Montecito, announced the delay of the 8-episode lifestyle show on Sunday.

“I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California,” she said in a statement.

The actress, who grew up in L.A.’s Crenshaw neighborhood, joined her husband on Friday at the Pasadena Convention Center to offer support to victims and first responders of the ongoing blazes ravaging areas of Los Angeles that have killed at least 24 people.

The couple also shared resources on their website last week, writing, “In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more — affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life. A state of emergency has been issued.”

When Netflix debuted the official trailer for “With Love, Meghan” on Jan. 2, the former “Suits” star faced some blowback on social media for being out of touch.

Meghan McCain was chief among the critics slamming the series, which the streamer promoted as “blending practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends, new and old.”

Actress Mindy Kaling, Korean BBQ kingpin Roy Choi and culinary celebrity Alice Waters were announced as special guests.

“I was originally a Meghan Markle supporter. I thought she was cool, stylish and refreshing,” McCain wrote in a fiery social media post. “Like the rest of the world my opinion changed when she disrespected the royal family. Now that she wants to be American again instead of British aristocracy what she seems to forget is Americans want real, raw, uncensored. All of this even in the trailer is highly curated, produced and out of touch.”

In her tweet, the former co-host of “The View” cited the turmoil of the world — ” 2 terror attacks in 2 days, major wars raging and Americans can’t pay for groceries” — for her ire against Markle.

More women accuse fantasy author Neil Gaiman of sexual assault https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/13/neil-gaiman-author-sexual-assault-allegations/ Mon, 13 Jan 2025 16:44:16 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8069765 Bestselling fantasy author Neil Gaiman is facing new and detailed accusations of sexual assault following a report published Monday.

Accusations against Gaiman, the author of “American Gods” and “Coraline,” among others, were first reported in July 2024 in a podcast series titled, “Master: the allegations against Neil Gaiman.”

In a report published Monday by Vulture, eight women said Gaiman sexually harassed and abused them, some describing graphically demeaning behavior.

“He asked if he could [redacted] on my face, and I said ‘no’ but he did anyway,” alleged victim Scarlett Pavlovich told Vulture. “He said, ‘Call me ‘master,’ and I’ll [redacted].’ He said, ‘Be a good girl. You’re a good little girl.’”

Gaiman, 64, has denied all the allegations since they were first reported, including those mentioned in Monday’s article. However, several Hollywood adaptations of his stories have been paused.

Many of the women said Gaiman forced them into BDSM-style “fantasies” that they never consented to, Vulture reported. Gaiman’s estranged wife, artist and author Amanda Palmer, once said “fourteen women have come to me” about Gaiman’s behavior, according to the report.

Gaiman has not faced any criminal charges for his alleged conduct. Pavlovich filed a police report in New Zealand, where she said the abuse occurred, but it went nowhere, according to Vulture.

Multiple women told the outlet Gaiman sent them money after their abusive relationships ended and forced them to sign nondisclosure agreements. Gaiman and Palmer, who had an open marriage, have been entangled in divorce proceedings since 2020.

‘General Hospital’ actress Leslie Charleson, who played Monica Quartermaine, dies at 79 https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/12/longest-running-general-hospital-actress-leslie-charleson-monica-quartermaine-dead-age-79/ Mon, 13 Jan 2025 04:22:36 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8069447 Leslie Charleson, whose Dr. Monica Quartermaine was the longest-tenured character on “General Hospital,” has died. She was 79.

Charleson died of complications from a long illness, said ABC News, which broadcasts the long-running soap opera. “General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini announced the star’s death.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Leslie Charleson,” Valentini wrote on X and the “General Hospital” Instagram account. “Her enduring legacy has spanned nearly 50 years on ‘General Hospital’ alone and, just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaines, Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew. I will miss our daily chats, her quick wit and incredible presence on set. On behalf of everyone at ‘General Hospital,’ my heartfelt sympathy goes out to her loved ones during this difficult time.”

Her exact cause of death was not made public, but Variety noted Charleson had fallen several times in recent years, hindering her mobility and forcing her to use a walker. She had been hospitalized last week after one such fall, Variety reported.

Charleson had held the role of Monica Quartermaine since joining “General Hospital” in 1977. She appeared in 2,079 episodes through 2023, according to IMDB. Switched to “recurring” status in 2010 over fan objections, she made fewer appearances on the soap but was still a regular until her last appearance in December 2023.

Born Feb. 22, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, Charleson caught the acting bug at an early age, according to Soap Opera Digest. In 1964, at 19, she appeared in her first soap “A Flame in the Wind,” then appeared as Alice Whipple on “As The World Turns,” followed by a three-year stint on CBS’s “Love Is a Many Splendored Thing” from 1967-70.

Charleson was subsequently cast in 1973’s “The Day of the Dolphin” by Oscar-winning director Mike Nichols. Then she tried her hand at Broadway, appearing in “One Night Stand” with Tony Curtis and William Devane, but when it closed after a short run, she headed for Hollywood.

For the next several years Charleson guest-starred on more than 20 household-name television shows, including “The Rockford Files,” “The Streets of San Francisco,” “Marcus Welby, M.D.,” “Mannix,” “Ironside,” “Adam-12” and “Emergency!” On “Happy Days,” Charleson’s divorced Dorothy Kimber gave actor-director Ron Howard (as Richie Cunningham) his first on-screen kiss, Variety noted.

But the soaps came knocking again, and she was cast as Monica Quartermaine — a role she would play for the next 45-plus years. Charleson shepherded her most famous character through marriages, children, breast cancer and a host of other fictional major life events, earning four Daytime Emmy best lead actress nominations as she went.

In later years she appeared on “Friends” in 2004 and on “Dharma & Greg” in 2001.

James Woods’ L.A. home ‘still standing’ after being told it burned down in wildfire https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/11/did-james-woods-house-burn-down-la-wildfire/ Sat, 11 Jan 2025 22:13:58 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8068461 Actor James Woods was told his home burnt down in the deadly wildfires ravaging Los Angeles, only to later learn his property was spared.

The two-time Oscar nominee, 77, shared news of the “miracle” on social media Friday.

“We managed to get to our property and our home, that we were told is gone forever, is still standing,” Woods captioned a video of the surrounding neighborhoods reduced to rubble.

“In this hellish landscape, ‘standing’ is relative, but smoke and other damage is not like the utter destruction around us,” he added.

Earlier this week, Woods got emotional when speaking to CNN about the reported loss of his Pacific Palisades home.

“One day you’re swimming in the pool, and the next it’s all gone,” he said.

Over 12,000 homes, businesses and other structures have been destroyed, with over 38,000 acres consumed by the blazes. So far, 11 people have been confirmed dead, though fire officials tragically expect that number to rise.

Civilians and celebrities alike have had their lives upended by the fires, including Paris Hilton, who watched her Malibu beach house burn to the ground on live TV. Billy Crystal and his wife lost their home of nearly 50 years, while Jeff Bridges lost a property that had been in his family for generations. Anthony Hopkins, Eugene Levy, Anna Faris, Adam Brody and Leigton Meester are also among the growing number of famous faces whose homes were destroyed.

Former child star Rory Callum Sykes dies in L.A. wildfire after mother couldn’t save him https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/11/former-child-star-rory-callum-sykes-dies-la-wildfire/ Sat, 11 Jan 2025 21:40:31 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8068393 Despite his mother’s desperate efforts to save him, former child star Rory Callum Sykes was killed in the wildfires ravaging Southern California.

Sykes — who was born blind and with cerebral palsy — died at his family’s estate in Malibu on Wednesday, his mother, Shelley Sykes, revealed in an emotional social media post. He was 32 years old.

“It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my beautiful son @RorySykes to the Malibu fires yesterday. I’m totally heartbroken,” she wrote, remembering him as a “wonderful son” and “a gift” who boasted an impressive list of achievements.

Sykes “overcame so much with surgeries and therapies to regain his sight and to be able to learn to walk” and eagerly traveled the world “despite the pain” he endured, Shelley continued. “He will be incredibly missed.”

British-born Sykes, who was previously living in Australia, recently relocated to Malibu, where he lived in cottage on his family’s 17-acre property, 9 News reported.

“I couldn’t put out the cinders on his roof with a hose because the water was switched off,” Shelley explained on social media. “Even the 50 brave firefighters had no water all day.”

Days after the wildfires began cropping up in the L.A. area, fire officials only first learned that the Santa Ynez Reservoir, capable of holding 117 gallons of water, had been out of commission since February. The tank had been completely emptied for repairs, leaving hydrants dry while firefighters worked to battle back fast-moving flames. Officials have also said there was a temporary drop in water pressure, causing some tanks to run dry due to the “tremendous demand.”

“He said, ‘Mom, leave me’ and no mom can leave their kid,” Shelley recalled in an interview with 10 News First. “I’ve got a broken arm, I couldn’t lift him, I couldn’t move him.”

She said fire officials confirmed her son died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Sykes is at least one of 11 deaths linked to the wildfires.

In addition to appearing in the ’90s UK show “Kiddy Kapers,” Sykes was also a “sought after motivational speaker” at just 8 years old.

More recently, he and his mom had founded Happy Charity. He was also a self-proclaimed lover of Tim Cook, all things Apple and the online game RuneScape.

Stepdaughter of late Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss defends mom Allison Holker amid family drama https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/11/stephen-twitch-boss-stepdaughter-weslie-fowler-defends-mom-allison-holker/ Sat, 11 Jan 2025 21:02:11 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=8068293 Allison Holker’s daughter, who was raised by her late stepdad, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, is defending her mom against allegations by Boss’ family and friends that Holker has “tarnished” his legacy while promoting her new memoir.

Though the late “Ellen DeGeneres Show” executive producer, who died by suicide at age 40 in December 2022, never formally adopted Weslie Fowler, the 16-year-old said he “raised me my entire life” and “never made me feel like anything but his daughter.”

In an Instagram Live on Friday, she dove into the recent “drama” between Boss’ family, friends and her mom, a judge on “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Weslie denied that Holker has in any way tried to keep Boss’ relatives from her or her half-siblings Maddox, 8, and Zaia, 5, and has instead been “making the effort” to keep the family in the kids’ lives.

As they “live in different states,” Weslie says she’s seen her stepdad’s family “more than when he was alive.” She accused Boss’ relatives of “trying to act different for social media,” as Holker and Boss’ mom, Connie Boss Alexander, are “very cordial” and “very nice” to one another offline.

“They were talking weekly. My mom sends photos of the kids and what we’re doing,” Weslie said.

The teen also addressed the nondisclosure agreements Holker made people sign before Boss’ funeral, explaining it was merely to prevent people from taking and sharing photos of his body at the viewing.

“That’s the type of thing that NDAs are for. It’s not so you can never talk about Stephen,” Weslie said, noting some didn’t sign and her mother was “lenient.”

“A lot of these people speaking out weren’t around, barely,” she added. “They say [Holker’s] money hungry, that she needs more fame. That’s not how my mom is. Trust me when I say, my mom’s good.”

Weslie also said Holker’s recent remarks about finding a “cornucopia” of drugs in a shoebox belonging to Boss were misunderstood.

“My mom never said that Stephen was an addict,” Weslie said. “But when you have two years after somebody committed suicide to question every interaction you had … obviously my mom’s like, ‘Maybe I should’ve paid more attention to him smoking weed.'”

The suicide of Boss’ own stepdad “stayed with him his entire life,” said Weslie, who implored people to “get your resources and go to therapy,” which she said Boss had been doing for years.

Ultimately, she finds the family drama to be “unnecessary” as “we’re never gonna get Stephen back.”

Tensions ratcheted up this week after People published an interview with Holker — tied to her upcoming memoir, “This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light” — in which she discussed finding those drugs and speculated Boss was “coping” with what she believed was childhood sexual abuse.

An autopsy found neither drugs nor alcohol in Boss’ system at the time of his death.

His response, his mom shared a statement earlier this week calling out the “misleading and hurtful claims” about Boss.

“We will not stand by while his name and legacy are tarnished,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Holker maintains she’s merely trying “to share my own story” and “help other people.” She has said that her memoir’s proceeds will go toward the mental health foundation Move with Kindness, which she established in her late husband’s honor.
